FIGHTING in the Gravesend house where a woman’s body was discovered was nothing new, according to a nearby resident.
She says she heard people arguing in the house just hours before the corpse was found in Russell Road at around 2.15am yesterday (November 4).
The woman says neighbours were used to hearing the fights as they had been regular occurrences since she moved in around three years ago.
She said: “I heard shouting, crying, screaming and the sound of flesh on flesh.”
But the mother-of-two says she did not hear a woman making any noise and believes it was just two men.
Officers have cordoned off the scene while they investigate the death of the woman, who was believed to be in her 30s.
Part of Clifton Grove, Gravesend, has also been cordoned off.
A post-mortem examination was carried out late yesterday afternoon and a number of further tests are underway to establish the cause of death.
Investigating officer Detective Inspector Ian Dampier said: “The circumstances surrounding this death are unclear and until we investigate further and receive the results of tests carried out yesterday on the victim, we cannot clarify whether this incident is suspicious or not.
“At present we can only continue to treat the death as unexplained.”
- A 34-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon and is being questioned in connection with the incident.
