A SCHOOL shook to the sound of a drum beat as youngsters learnt about ethnic minorities and their impact on the community.
Pupils at Bishop Justus School in Magpie Hall Lane, Bromley, celebrated their second successive heritage day with drumming, poetry, cooking, art and dance laid on for 180 Year 9 pupils.
Hammersmith politician Shaun Bailey also spoke to youngsters about raising their aspirations and getting the most out of education.
The school currently has 29 ethnic minority pupils on their register.
Its ethnic minority achievement co-ordinator Maureen Dadson said: “The event helped to show the children the positive contribution that afro-caribbeans have made to our culture.
“It is an internal event at the moment but we have plans to make it bigger and involve more of the community.
“It is very important for our children to realise their culture is valued.”
