A PARALYMPICS bronze medal winner hosted an awards ceremony at a school to celebrate its students success in a mini olympics.
British athlete Alastair McKean won a bronze medal in adaptive rowing at the Beijing Paralympics this summer, and on October 22 he gave medals to Dartford Grammar School for Girls’ own champion athletes.
Around 20 students at the school in Shepherds Lane won medals while representing Dartford in the Kent School Games, a mini olympics for schoolchildren across the county held this summer.
Student Katie Davis, 14, won gold in the backstroke swimming race, and says “it felt great to come first in my event and receive a gold medal".
She added: “The presentation evening was exciting as we met Alastair McKean, which was a great honour."
The Kent School Games saw around 30,000 primary and secondary school children taking part in competitions in 14 different sports, with a further 9 disability sports.
