A GROUP of American servicemen armed themselves with paintbrushes and spades to redecorate a day centre for autistic people.
Eight soldiers, sailors and airmen from a military base at Northwood in Middlesex transformed the allotments and some of the rooms at the National Autistic Society’s Coney Hall day centre.
Sergeant 1st Class Brian Oleen who has volunteered previously for the national charity got the group together to help out for a day.
Sgt Oleen said: “We’re not scared of a bit of hard work and really enjoyed getting stuck in to do our bit for such a good cause.”
The day centre in Croydon Road, West Wickham provides activities, training and support for adults with autism.
Facilities include a sensory room, computers, work areas, kitchen, art room and relaxation area.
