A GREEN initiative has been selected by the Government as an example to others on how to cut down on waste.
Lewisham borough has been chosen as a zero waste place by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in recognition of Lewisham Council’s eco-street initiative.
The Government scheme recognises areas in the UK which have demonstrated innovative ways in cutting down on waste.
The eco-street initiative offers residents in 100 properties in Old Stanstead Road, Rojack Road, and Rockbourne Road, Forest Hill, specialist advice and support to cut waste.
Lewisham Mayor Sir Steve Bullock said: “For many years, Lewisham has promoted environmental improvements across the borough.
“I’m really keen that we find ways to help residents reduce waste, do their bit for the environment and save themselves money into the bargain.”
