1605 – Guy Fawkes, a Roman Catholic convert and a conspirator in the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested in Parliament’s cellar.
1890 – Stockwell, London’s first underground station, was opened by the Prince of Wales.
1995 – A man in China was arrested for selling a corpse to a peasant couple who were looking for a bride for their dead son.
2001 – It was revealed that the Football Association was considering not rebuilding Wembley Stadium, as it would cost too much and other venues for matches were proving successful.
