A MEETING has taken place to discuss a piece of historic land which has been included in a planning application for a £300m regeneration project.
The deeds, trust and obligations committee meeting took place at Dartford Civic Centre in Home Gardens, Dartford, yesterday (October 30).
It related to the planning application for Lowfield Vision, which could see a 120,000sq ft Tesco supermarket, houses, shops, cafes and restaurants being built in Dartford.
Part of the application, which covers Central Park, includes Kidd legacy land which was donated to the Dartford Urban District Council by its then chairman Lieutenant Colonel Charles Newman Kidd in 1903.
It was given on the condition it was, in Lt Col Kidd's words, used "in perpetuity as a public recreation ground and for no other purpose whatsoever".
There had previously been concerns that the land would not be used for recreational use if the application is approved.
However, at the meeting it was confirmed that the council was happy with the land being used as all the aspects of this part of the application are recreational.
Leader of Dartford Council, Councillor Jeremy Kite said if the planning application is approved there will be no commercial development on this part of the land, it will only be recreational.
Subject to planning permission work is expected to start in early 2009. For more information visit lowfieldvision.co.uk
