Tattoo or not to tattoo, that is the question! Tattoos are everywhere, or so it seems. Rock stars, sports figures, fashion models and film stars flaunt them. Many people have followed suit, proudly displaying tattoos on various parts of their body for all manner of reasons – “There's something primal and sensual about them”, “they express your personality”, “they look great/cute”, “they’re cool”. Indeed, for some, a tattoo is a way of making a grand romantic gesture – a very foolish gesture in some cases!
So the question that I’m asking is “Should you……….?” Or was Theodore Dalrymple right when he says that to many people, tattoos "are often the visible sign that a man . . . belongs to a violent, brutal, antisocial, and criminalized subculture".
If the consensus is yes, then what tattoo should you get? Names? Cute little animals? Elaborate pictures? Flowers? Abstract symbols? Strange/Mysterious symbols?
Where should you get it/them? Arms? Shoulders? Chest? Hip? Backside? Stomach? Lower back? Ankle? Hands?
And what about if you’re a lady – do the same rules apply?
And the final question – any confessions, or indeed regrets, regarding ‘bodyart’?
Excalibur doesn’t have any regrets……………but may have some confessions!
