A BEXLEY school has won a national award for its work in bringing the wider world into the classroom.
Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, in Hurst Road, Sidcup, was presented with the International School Award (ISA) by journalist and broadcaster George Alagiah at a ceremony in London.
The award scheme operates in India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Lebanon, Cyprus and Pakistan, as well as the UK, and the Sidcup school was one of 585 to receive the award this year.
The school has an ISA committee of staff and pupils who work on projects with schools in Germany, France, Romania, Austria and Ethiopia.
The award was launched in 1999 and is funded by the British Council and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
Its aim is to recognise schools leading the way in bringing a global dimension to the learning of children and young people, and so far 1,200 British schools have achieved the award.
The ISA is considered by the Government to be “a major prize for excellence in this field” and is open to all schools in the UK.
School head Dr Joe Vitagliano described receiving the award as “an outstanding achievement to make our pupils global citizens”.
