CELEBRITY gardener Tom Hart Dyke will be speaking about his captivity in Columbia, the inspiration for his world garden and his family’s battle to save their home in a talk at Bexleyheath’s Central library next month.
Mr Hart Dyke lives with his family at Lullingstone Castle, near Eynsford. His efforts to create his world garden in the castle grounds as a means of attracting more visitors to the castle were chronicled in a BBC 2 series.
In 2000, Hart Dyke was kidnapped by suspected FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) while hunting for rare orchids.
He and his travel companion were held captive for nine months and threatened with death.
His garden is filled with plants from all over the world and the idea was conceived while he was held hostage.
The talk takes place on November 19 at 7pm.
Tickets cost £3 and are available in advance by calling 020 8303 7777, option four.
