HISTORIAN Cliff Pereira, who has undertaken extensive research on Bexley’s black history and the borough’s connections to the transatlantic slave trade, has written a book on the subject.
The View from Shooters Hill — The Hidden Black and Asian History of Bexley is being launched at an event next week as part of the celebrations for Black History Month.
Mr Pereira has unearthed a lot of previously unknown information about Bexley’s past.
Some of this is contained in a touring exhibition about the borough’s connections to the slave trade.
The launch of the book by Bexley mayor Councillor Nick O’Hare will be accompanied by a number of speakers, including Mr Pereira.
There will also be songs, dance and poems and a chance to ask questions.
The event takes place at Roberts Hall, behind Christ Church in Bexleyheath Broadway, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on November 6.
