A TOWN archive put together by local history enthusiasts is being opened up for viewing for the public.
The Crayford Town Archive Group was created by Dannis and Dyanne Jarrett through the Friends of Crayford Library after funding from Lottery’s Awards for All bought new computer equipment.
It decided to throw open its doors last week and let people see the information and material it has gathered so far and to spread the word about its work.
The group meets on the first, second and fourth Mondays of the month in the hall above the library in Crayford Road between 2.30pm and 4pm.
People can either donate items to the archive, bring postcards, photographs, documents and other items to be copied onto computer, or just drop in for a chat about old times.
Group member David Gillham said: “We already have more than 1,000 images of Crayford.”
He added: “We are interested in hearing from anyone who worked at Vickers in Crayford so we can record their memories.”
The group has used the archive to produce a 2009 calendar with pictures of old Crayford, which is available at the library.
