THREE quarters of people consulted about a new pay and display scheme in Beckenham were in favour of the proposals.

Bromley Council plan to introduce a new parking regime in Upper Elmers End Road outside Eden Park railway station at an estimated cost of £8,750.

The cash will also create free parking bays in nearby Links Way.

Council bosses sent out 87 letters to residents outlining the proposals and of the 40 returned, 75 per cent, or 30 responses, were in favour of the plans.

Nine responses objected to the proposals which could make the council around £3,500 in 2009/10, while one stated they were unaffected.

Some objections stated the idea was a money making exercise and should have included provision for resident parking bays.

The Executive Portfolio Holder for the Environment Councillor Colin Smith is expected to approve the Monday to Saturday pay and display scheme at a meeting tonight (October 28).
