RESIDENTS may soon have yellow lines outside their homes to stop commuters from parking in the streets.
Proposals put forward by Dartford Council to put single and double yellow lines along residential roads in Greenhithe were discussed at a Dartford Council meeting last Thursday. (OCTOBER 23).
The plans have been deferred following further consultation with Greenhithe and Swanscombe Town Council, and residents.
Councillor Bryan Read who is head of the Swanscombe and Greenhithe Residents Association says that a number of people are against the proposals.
Cllr Read said: “In general most of the residents are in favour of something being done about the parking situation in Greenhithe.
“But they don’t think that yellow lines are the best option, as they will permit people from parking outside their homes at certain times.”
He says that parking is a problem in Greenhithe like it is in every town.
He said: “A lot of the people parking in these residential streets are commuters who are catching the train to work from Greenhithe station.
“We want to encourage these people to use the two cars parks in Eagle Street, which are only a five to 10 minute walk from the station.”
Stephen Borders of Bell Close, Greenhithe says that yellow lines could devastate the town.
The 49-year-old said: “There is already a limited amount of places for people to park.
“An additional car park, or extending the existing car parks would be a better option, as there has been a noticeable increase in the number of commuters parking in our roads.”
