LAST year’s mayor managed to raise a record-breaking sum for her chosen charity.
Former Bromley mayor, Councillor Pauline Tunnicliffe finished her term in May and last week presented the funds raised to the Bromley Diabetes Support Group at the Civic Centre, Stockwell Close, Bromley.
The charity, which provides support for residents suffering from diabetes in the borough, was pleased to receive £40,849.
Part of the cash will go towards equipment for the diabetes unit at Orpington Hospital, Sevenoaks Road.
The rest of the money will be donated to the national charity to which they are affiliated, Diabetes UK, to go towards medical research projects into the condition.
Cllr Tunnicliffe said at the presentation: “Maybe one of these pounds will help to find a cure.”
Each year Bromley mayors raise around £30,000 for one or more chosen charities, holding fundraising events and raising profiles.
