FOUR people have become the first in Greenwich to be fined under new rules to clamp down on irresponsible dog owners.
Greenwich Council introduced the dog control orders in September and mean dog owners face fines for not picking up after their pet and not keeping their dogs on leads in designated areas.
The orders are being enforced by PCSOs and council staff and so far four men have been fined £75 each.
Greenwich Council cabinet member Councillor Maureen O’Mara said: “We have introduced these controls with the sole purpose of clamping down on the few irresponsible dog owners in the borough.
“Anyone found not following the new laws will face a significant fine, as these actions have shown. These measures are intended to improve outdoor life for everyone in Greenwich.”
