INFORMATION about an eye disease was available at Bluewater shopping centre last week as part of a campaign to prevent blindness.
From Wednesday to Sunday eye experts were on hand to give shoppers free advice on spotting the symptoms of glaucoma, which can cause blindness.
This was part of the Windows to Health campaign organised by pharmaceutical company Pfizer to raise awareness of the importance of having regular eye tests to identify eye conditions.
The campaign is supported by the consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, Ian Murdoch.
He said: “In all the developed world only half of those with glaucoma are diagnosed and receiving therapy.
“However, this need not be the case. Everyone has access to eye health professionals.”
Glaucoma causes damage to the optic nerve and symptoms include red eyes, nausea and deteriorating sight.
