THE gauntlet has been thrown down by Bexley Council to the borough’s businesses, residents and young people to help them get fit.
It has put together two new activities to encourage people to get out of their armchairs and into the sports hall.
Businesses are being invited to put together teams of staff to take part in a series of free taster softball sessions being held at Erith School, Avenue Road, Erith, on Thursdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
Coaching will be provided by the national governing body, Baseball Softball UK, with the teams being invited to compete against each other.
A new volleyball club is also being launched, based at Townley Grammar School, Townley Road, Bexleyheath.
The club, which will run on Mondays during term time, is open to all abilities and there will also be coaching.
Sessions for young people aged 11 to 15 are from 6pm to 7.30pm.
There will be sessions for adults from 7.30pm to 9pm.
The club is part of an Olympic engagement programme and is organised jointly by Bexley and England Volleyball.
