BELVEDERE Cricket Club is one of the smallest in the North Kent Cricket League, but it boasts some illustrious connections and some up-and-coming junior players.
The Colts section was coached and run by Frank Knott until his death two years ago. He was the elder brother of Alan Knott, one of England’s finest wicketkeepers.
The brothers were born and brought up in Belvedere, where their father, Eric, was wicketkeeper for the club.
The club, in Woolwich Road, Belvedere, has restructured since Frank Knott’s death and this year has been given support by the Jack Petchey Foundation, a charity which helps youth groups.
It is also committed to achieving Clubmark status by next year.
The mark was created by the England and Wales Cricket Board to develop a healthy club cricket infrastructure The club currently runs three senior sides and four Colts teams and its under-13s were unbeaten this season and won the North Kent junior league division 3 south east.
It rounded off a successful season for the Colts with an awards evening, where a number of the boys received Jack Petchey awards.
