Bosses at Bromley Council spent nearly £343,000 in one year clearing up the borough’s dumped rubbish, according to government figures.
The latest statistics from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs show that the Council spent £342,785 clearing up and disposing of 4,028 incidents of flytipping.
The local authority also helped with one successful flytipping prosecution in the financial year to March.
During the same period in 2006/07, the council spent £371,431 clearing up 4,974 cases of ditched rubbish.
Waste minister Jane Kennedy said: “Local authorities are doing well in the fight against flytipping.
“Flytipping is unacceptable and a blight on public land. I’m pleased to see the decrease in incidents but we still need to work on the serious environmental and social problem of flytipping.
“No one should have to accept flytipping in their area.”
