LEWISHAM Borough FC secured another three points to keep them in third place with a 2-1 victory on Saturday against the previously unbeaten Hollands & Blair at the Star Meadow Ground.

The home side edged the early exchanges and really should have done better with the chances they created. Lewisham looked dangerous on the break and it was from one of these moves from which they took the lead on 16 minutes.

A pass was clipped forward by Bobby Watkins, Ricardo Harvey climbed higher than his marker to flick on with a header which saw the ever-dangerous Alex Okisor latch onto it and easily beat the advancing keeper.

Lewisham looked well organised in defence, where Mark Hughes was excellent at centre back, alongside the cool and commanding Ambrose Kamara. Jason Campbell was his normal exuberant self, full of energy and great defending, while Bobby Watkins was his usual, dependable and solid self.

Lewisham’s midfielders were kept busy by a good Hollands & Blair unit. Both skipper Demani Campbell and Adam Dolby in the centre were holding their own very well as Lewisham went in at half time 1-0 up. The second half saw both sides testing out each other on the counter attack. It was from one of these attacks Lewisham scored their second goal, created from a pass played forward down the left by the impressive and hard-working Joe Murphy.

Alex Okisor ran away from his opponents, rounded the keeper and from an acute angle, slotted home into the net with an excellent finish. With the cushion of a 2-0 lead, Lewisham were now playing well and looked the better side with the pacey Victor Okisor looking very dangerous down the left side.

Hollands & Blair got back in the game 11 minutes from time when they won possession in midfield.

The ball found its way to Cliff Eldridge, who controlled it and fired a superb 25 yard shot into the far corner of the net. With Hollands now looking for a late equaliser, they threw everything at Lewisham and only some great goalkeeping by Dan Teeley and some heroic defending saw Lewisham secure a well-earned victory.
