A FOOTBALL club has been given an award by a top referee for its work in the community.
Orpington Football Club, based at the Sports Club in Goddington Lane, Orpington, was presented with the Kent FA Charter Standard Community Club of the Year award by Premiership referee Steve Bennett.
It recognises the club’s work with schools, community groups and leisure organisations to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour by providing opportunities to play football.
The club recently introduced a girls’ team and plans to form a disabled side.
Chairman Jeff Cockburn said: “We are immensely proud to have been awarded such a prestigious award.
“We have worked hard over the last few years developing close links with other local organisations to promote football in the community.”
Anyone interested in playing, helping or sponsoring the club should call secretary Chris Harper on 07813 385182.
