THREE quarters of electric blankets tested by safety experts earlier this month have been destroyed because they were unsafe.
The blankets were presented by their elderly owners at a free blanket testing day in Woolwich Town Hall organised by the Electrical Safety Council.
Fifteen out of the 20 blankets were found to be dangerous for reasons such as damaged cables and electric plugs.
Trading Standards advisers were on hand at the October 6 event giving out free adaptors which automatically disconnect electrical appliances if they have faults.
Residents who would like to get their electric blankets tested can call Greenwich Council on 020 8921 8223.
