A TODDLER found alone in a burning house will stay in the care of social services until the police have completed an investigation into the fire.
The two-year-old boy was discovered by firefighters in an upstairs bedroom after they had extinguished a kitchen fire in Lynch Walk, Deptford, at around 9.30am on Friday (October 17).
After receiving hospital treatment, the youngster was immediately taken into care by social services at Lewisham Council.
A spokesman at the council has confirmed that the tot will now stay with social services for the foreseeable future.
The spokesman added: “This was an appalling incident.
"We want to make it clear that this boy was not known to social services before the fire.
“He will remain in our care until, at least, the police have completed their investigation."
- The boy’s 40-year-old mother has been arrested and bailed until December.
