FIREFIGHTERS pulled a fire engine from Welling to Bexleyheath in memory of a colleague who died of a brain tumour.
Jeff Martin from Belvedere was 38 when he died of a brain tumour five weeks ago, shortly after losing his wife Lisa to cancer.
The couple’s two sons who are aged seven and 11 are being cared for by their grandparents.
Firecrews from Plumstead and Woolwich and Erith, where Fireman Martin was based, set off from Bellegrove Road in Welling at 11am today (October 18).
Around 60 firefighters took part in the fundraising event, including some from Fulham station where Fireman Martin had worked previously.
Erith station manager Chris Williams said: "It is a sad occasion but we wanted to show Jeff's family our support and to see him off as best we can."
They were pulling the engine to Bexleyheath Broadway to raise money for the brain injury charity Headway, the Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice in Bostall Hill, Abbey Wood and for Fireman Martin’s family.
