A HEALTH service shake-up has gained the support of the Lewisham Labour Party which has rejected calls for the proposals to be reviewed.
The Labour Party pledged its support for the A Picture of Health proposals at a meeting of Lewisham Council’s Healthier Communities Committee, on October 9.
The proposals would mean reducing A&E surgical admissions at Lewisham Hospital.
A motion was called by Socialist councillors Chris Flood and Ian Page to refer the proposals to the Health Secretary Alan Johnson but the committee have voted not to support it.
Labour councillor Alan Hall said: “Lewisham Hospital has secured a 24 hour A&E department, first class children’s services, improved maternity services and kept planned surgery.
“This is good news for all Lewisham residents.”
