A THEATRE group helped youngsters take a trip from the West Indies to England as part of Black History Month.
Pupils at Balgowan Primary School, Balgowan Road, Beckenham, were entertained by the Primary Colours Theatre Group who helped chart the history of music, film and dance and their origins in the West Indies.
Pupils learned about slaves on Jamaican sugar plantations and post-war Jamaican families who travelled to Britain.
The whole school watched the show which also gave the audience a hands-on experience with Caribbean food.
Year 3 class teacher Michael Richardson said: “This event has been the start of our Black History Month activities for 2008.
“Being able to develop the way that Balgowan Primary School celebrates cultural diversity has been a wonderful experience.”
