AN 11-YEAR-OLD boy could be one week away from punching his way to becoming a world Thai boxing champion.

George Miller, of Neal Road, West Kingsdown, could soon be jetting off to Berlin to take part in the World Kickboxing Association (WKA) World Championships 2008.

In April the Dartford Grammar School for Boys pupil, who has been boxing since he was six, became the English and British champion for his weight category in Thai boxing.

George, who is a member of Semtex Fight Centre in Swanley town centre, said: “I feel like it is a big dream come true and it is an honour to represent my country.

“If I win I will feel really happy and won’t stop thinking about it.”

His dad Paul said: “We are very proud of him and he really enjoys it.

“He has been doing it from an early age and he is looking to get there and do the best he can.”

George is one of eight youngsters from Semtex who have qualified for Berlin and each one of them has to raise £1,000 to pay for the trip.

The money will cover the cost of flights, accommodation and England team kits.

Mr Miller says they were struggling to raise the £1,000.

However, Sevenoaks MP Michael Fallon, helped out by writing to businesses in the area appealing for donations.

As a result the Millers have now raised £850 towards the cost of the trip, which runs from October 22 to October 26.

George’s head coach Steve Gladstone said: “He is absolutely amazing. I never used to really take on children but his dad begged me.

“George is a lovely little boy and probably one of my best mates. I’ve become quite close with the whole family.”

The 44-year-old added: “If George wins in Berlin, he will become the world junior champion for his weight category.”

Mr Fallon said: “I am chuffed I have been able to help and I hope he does well and enjoys it.”
