RESIDENTS are being asked for their views on possible new dog control orders.
Lewisham Council wants to know how people would feel about on-the-spot fines of £75 for owners who act irresponsibly when taking their dog out in public.
Fineable offences would include failing to remove mess, not keeping dogs on leads in designated areas, and taking more than a specified number of dogs onto land.
Cabinet member for customer services, Councillor Susan Wise, said: “As members of the public we have the right to walk Lewisham's streets and in our parks and green spaces without being afraid of uncontrolled dogs, or of stepping in dog faeces.
“It is important that we get these new control orders right and take on board peoples’ views.”
The consultation ends on November 14.
Residents can make their feelings known by completing an online survey at lewisham.gov.uk, by emailing dogcontrolorders@lewisham.gov.uk or by calling 020 8314 7171.
