IF THE existing planetarium shows at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, gave you urges to become an astronomer (which can certainly be said for Leisure), the new show, Invaders of Mars, will no doubt inspire a few astronauts and have you reaching for the space suit. Narrated by former Dr Who star Tom Baker, the new attraction gives a taste of what the earth’s fleet of space probes have uncovered in their expeditions as they try to reveal what mysteries lie hidden on the surface of the earth’s closest neighbour.
The piece, designed by Emmy award-winning space artist Don Davis, recreates planet-wide storms, plunges into Mars’ chasms and visits the polar ice cap using CGI translated from real scientific data.
Invaders of Mars opens Oct 20. Royal Observatory, Greenwich.
