CHILDREN from six Bexley primary schools have spent a day chopping and blending while learning how to make healthy meals.

Hosted by Blackfen School for Girls in Blackfen Road, the event was part of the nationwide Let’s Get Cooking scheme.

A group of 40 pupils learned the basic skills of preparing healthy recipes under the expert eye of a team from the Government Office for London.

The food was then served up in the school cafeteria at lunchtime for students to sample.

Pupils from the Blackfen school joined in with children from the Bexley Business Academy, Northumberland Heath, Sherwood Park Primary, Northend and Old Bexley primary schools.

It is hoped the primary schools will now form their own Let’s Get Cooking clubs.

Blackfen headteacher Matthew Brown said; “It has been great to see the students getting stuck in and learning about nutritious food.

“All of the food was absolutely delicious.”

The £20m programme aims to teach young people, families and communities basic cooking skills and enable them to cook nutritious meals from scratch.
