A BOY has found a 2m-long snake skin in a park — but experts believe it may have been left there as a joke.
Ten-year-old Ronnie Porter, of Sydenham Park Road, Sydenham, stumbled on the snake skin in nearby Wells Park while walking the family dog with his mum Debbie.
Mrs Porter, 32, said: “We were walking through the park’s nature reserve when I saw something which looked like an old piece of tape.
“I was a bit surprised when I realised what it was and I panicked, knowing there might be a snake that large loose in the park.”
After the find on July 4, Lewisham Council’s animal welfare team took the skin to London Zoo.
It was later identified as belonging to an adult boa constrictor.
However, experts at the zoo say it is unlikely the skin had been shed by a snake living in the wild and believe it was left there as a practical joke.
