A SIKH festival procession will take over the streets of Gravesend on April 13.

The Vaisakhi procession, which not only celebrates the birth of the Sikh nation but also the building of a new £8m temple, in Trinity Road, will set off at 11.30am from the Sikh temple, in Clarence Place, and will arrive in the town centre at 12.30pm.

At around 1.30pm, the procession will stop outside the Gura Ravidas temple in Brandon Street.

From there, the procession will stop at the police station in Windmill Street and acknowledge local dignitaries, including Gravesham MP Chris Pond, north Kent police superintendent David Pryer and Thames-side fire station commander Andy Merriman.

At around 2.30pm, they will arrive at the Guru Nanak sports ground, in Trinity Road, where the first stone will be laid for the new temple.

The celebrations will finish with a multi-cultural concert at the Woodville Halls in Windmill Street.

There will be no road closures over the weekend, except in Clarence Place.
