East Dulwich has been revealed as one of the areas with the highest burglary rates in the UK.
The area was only recently named as one of the best places to live in the UK, but now it’s made a less desirable list.
The research by MoneySuperMarket Home Insurance analysed millions of home insurance quotes to identify the UK postcode areas with the highest and lowest burglary claims between 2021 and 2023.
The research revealed that the SE22 postcode, which encompasses East Dulwich as well as part of Peckham Rye, has the eleventh highest burglary claim rate in the UK with 31.73 claims per 1,000 quotes.
Neighbouring East Dulwich, the SE24 postcode which covers Herne Hill and Tulse Hill was found to have the third highest burglary rate in the country, with 37.96 claims per 1,000 quotes.
In September Muddy Stilettos revealed East Dulwich was on their 2025 list of the best places to live in the UK.
The list named the area as “cool”, but not in a “graffiti-scrawled, underground clubs and street food way” instead in a “farmers markets, art galleries and notable restaurants” way.
Some of the examples given of this are Goose Green Park, an “enviable” high street and a “splash” of street art.
The blogger also gave shout outs to some popular spots to eat in East Dulwich.
They said that locals love Our which is a co-working space, yoga studio and a Sri Lankan-inspired café.
For pizza, they recommend Yard Sale – in particular the garlic roasted aubergine.
A pub that Muddy Stilettos sees as a stand out in the area is The Palmerston, they say it “is always on point thanks to its cosy back room and dining area.”
The blogger also recognised the variety of independent shops in East Dulwich, such as Forest London, Rye Books and Celestial.

Alicia Hempsted, insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, gave some tips for those living in areas such as East Dulwich which are frequently targeted by burglaries.
She said: "While it can be startling to see it laid out like this, it’s important to remember that taking simple steps to secure your home can help reduce the likelihood of being burgled.
"Our research also shows that burglary claims are trending downwards, with the number of claims per 1,000 quotes falling by around 12 per cent in the last year.
"However, it’s unlikely that people will see this reflected in how much they pay for their home insurance, with the average cost of a buildings and contents policy increasing by 18 per cent for the same period, according to our home insurance index.
"If you’re looking to save money on your home insurance, compare policies and prices to find the best deals.
"Installing a burglar alarm or upgrading old windows and doors can help bring your quote down in price while also making your home more secure."
MoneySuperMarket has provided some tips for preventing burglaries.
These include fitting decent locks on windows and doors, marking possessions with a UV security pen, installing cameras and automatic sensor lights, getting an alarm installed by an accredited supplier, and keeping valuables away from windows and car keys out of sight.
