People are being advised to “avoid the area” after a fire at a row of shops and dwellings in Peckham.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the blaze in Coldharbour Lane just before 8.45am today (November 27).

A part of a two-room flat on the third floor was also alight.

One of the Brigade's 32-meter turntable ladders was deployed as an observation tower to assist with firefighting efforts from above.

Road closures are expected to remain in place until the afternoon.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews and, to assist our emergency services colleagues.”

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a range of shops and dwellings on Coldharbour Lane in Peckham.

“Part of a two roomed flat on the third floor was alight.

Road closures are expected until this afternoon.

“One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as an observation tower to help fight the fire from above.

“Control Officers took the first of 22 calls at 8.43am and mobilised crews from Peckham, Old Kent Road, New Cross and surrounding fire stations to the scene.

“The fire was under control by 10.29am.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.

“We were called at 8.47am this morning (27.11) to a fire in SE5.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews and, to assist our emergency services colleagues.”
