20 stations across Southeastern’s network have received upgrades over the last few years in a £2.6 million refurbishment scheme.

The scheme, in collaboration between Southeastern and Network Rail, and involving the Access for All Scheme, delivered key improvements to 20 stations across Southeastern’s network – including several in south east London.

Among these stations were Eltham, Maze Hill and Orpington, which involved upgrades to waiting room areas, ticket offices and women’s toilets.

The project initially began with enhancements of stations to upgrade customer facilities and restore historic elements, before work commenced in 2023 to improve booking halls, platforms and customer areas.

An accessible toilet was added at Hither Green along with accessible toilet upgrades at Bexley.

The waiting room at Petts Wood station also received an upgrade, making it step-free for customers, and platforms at Orpington received access upgrades.

Further work has also been announced at a further three south east London stations over the coming years, namely Beckenham Junction, Catford Bridge and New Cross.

David Wornham, Southeastern’s Passenger Services Director, said: “We’re thrilled to see the completion of this £2.6m package of station improvements as it underlines our commitment to delivering better journeys for our customers.

“These upgrades will make a real difference to passengers, whether it’s easier accessibility, modernised facilities, or simply a more pleasant station environment.

“We know how important these enhancements are to the communities we serve, and we’re proud to work in alliance with Network Rail to deliver a better experience for everyone who travels with us."
