A teenage knifeman from Lewisham left a student with a life-changing brain injury then bragged about the stabbing in a rap.

William Osaseri stabbed a student in Nottingham in June then fled home to Grove Park where he was arrested the following week.

The victim underwent emergency surgery and was in a coma for six weeks as the stabbing severed his brachial artery in his arm.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik, who investigated the stabbing, said: “Due to a lack of oxygen caused by the stab wound, the victim now has a life-changing brain injury that continues to hold significant implications for both himself and his family – and it’s unlikely he’ll be able to return to university to resume his studies.”

Nottinghamshire Police said the motivation for the attack is not clear but 19-year-old Osaseri has links to street gangs in London and was involved in drug dealing around university campuses.

When he was arrested in Grove Park police found deal bags of cannabis, scales and the blue-handled knife used to stab the victim.

Recorder Simon King said it was “pure luck” that the victim did not die.

DS Malik agreed: “This was a brutal attack with several attempts made to strike the victim with a lethal weapon.
