Four south London students have been jailed after an 18-year-old was stabbed during a fight.

Knives, a baseball bat and a crutch were used during a fight near the De Montfort University campus in Leicester in November 2021.

The men were wearing puffer jackets, hoodies and balaclavas during the fight but the culprits were eventually identified as undergraduate students Destiny Ojo, Habib Lawal, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Joshua Davies-Ero.

Habib Lawal, 21, of Lumley Close in Bexley, has now been jailed for five years after being found guilty of violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm and committing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Joshua Davies-Ero, 21, of Springfield Road in Bexley, has now been jailed for two years after he was found guilty of violent disorder.

Destiny Ojo, 21, of Warland Road in Plumstead, was given seven years after being found guilty of violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm and committing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Ridwanulahi Raheem, 21, of George Mathers Road in Lambeth was jailed for three years after being found guilty of violent disorder and possession of a bladed article.

A fight broke out and the four students armed themselves with weapons.

Davies-Ero was seen to be carrying a crutch, Ojo was seen with a baseball bat, Lawal was carrying what was believed to be a knife and Raheem was later seen carrying a large knife.

The victim suffered four stab wounds.

Detective Constable Sean Downey said: “This incident highlights the serious danger of violent disorder. It is extremely fortunate that further injury was not caused to the people involved or to other members of the public who witnessed the incident. This could have been a very different investigation.

“Following the disorder, a full investigation took place with suspects being identified at different stages through CCTV enquiries, phone work and public appeals. Further investigative work then led to the charges being made.

“Thank you to everyone who has assisted us throughout this investigation and provided information. As a force, our priority is to keep the public safe. We will not tolerate violent disorder in our communities and will take action against those who are responsible for it.”
