A dad from Orpington has walked more than 11km in a special pattern to celebrate the anniversary of the Orpington Buff chicken.
Dad of two Stephen Sangster completed the walk in 11.57km and two hours - by using a tracking app to walk in the shape of a chicken.
The walk marked the 130th anniversary of the Orpington buff chicken, a breed that was first bred in Orpington in the 19th century.
The 42-year-old said: “This was no small ‘feather’ in my cap.
“I wanted to celebrate this iconic breed, which is so closely tied to Orpington, and combine it with my passion for walking.
"It was an eggs-ercise in both fitness and creativity.”
Accompanied by his young son Rowan, the walk had the pair visiting a number of Orpington sites, including the historic farm where William Cook first bred the chickens.
Stephen, who organises regular walks as part of the Knoll Active group, said that the walk “wasn’t just about the chicken buff” and added that it was about “promoting a healthy lifestyle”.
Stephen said: “It was also a way to promote the benefits of walking as part of a healthy lifestyle.
“Knoll Active has been amazing for connecting with neighbours and staying active — it’s something I hope more people will join.
“Orpington is a community worth crowing about and with a little creativity, you can explore it in ways you’d never imagine.”
