An Orpington-based boxer is celebrating making it to the semi-finals of a national competition – paving the way for the club’s growing reputation.
Orpington & District Amateur Boxing Club has announced that Harry Sheppard, one of its top boxers, will advance to the semi-finals of the NABGC England Boxing National Finals in Wales.
Harry secured his place in the semi-finals, set for November 17, with an impressive win in the quarter-finals.
He defeated a strong opponent from the Panthers club, achieving a stoppage by RSC in the third round.
The club has expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported Harry in his journey, including dedicated coaches and volunteers who have been essential to his success.
The support from officials, coaches, and fans has been invaluable in helping Harry and the club reach this prestigious stage.
Harry’s achievement adds to a stellar season for Orpington & District ABC, which reopened in April 2024 and has since made a strong comeback on the boxing scene.
The club boasts two London champions this season—Harry and his twin brother, George, collectively known as the Sheppard Twins. The pair live in Forest Hill.
According to Orpington ABC, it is only boxing club in the Bromley Borough to produce London champions this season.
Located in Petts Wood, Orpington & District ABC opens its doors seven days a week, offering training to aspiring boxers of all ages.
The club is committed to accessibility and community involvement, providing free sessions to underprivileged children to encourage everyone to pursue their boxing ambitions.
For those interested in joining, carded sessions are offered at just £5 per session or £49 for a monthly membership.
As the Sheppard twins continue to inspire, Orpington ABC is looking to local businesses for sponsorship to support its mission of nurturing future boxing champions.
Those interested in contributing to this inspiring club are encouraged to reach out.
Tim Langridge, the vice president for Orpington & District ABC, said: “I’m very pleased in the direction the club is heading, we’re really making an impact on the youth across Borough and go down in history as the most successful club in Bromley.”
