Some Londoners have called for the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) to be scrapped and replaced with a 'Limited Traffic Zone' (LTZ).

Used in the French capital of Paris, the LTZ will ban vehicles from passing through the central four districts of the city.

Like the ULEZ, the LTZ was created by Paris Mayor Annie Hidalgo to help "free up public space" while improving the capital's pollution.

Unlike London's ULEZ, the Paris version has more exceptions including for residents and workers in the region.

This includes emergency vehicles, buses, taxis and people with reduced mobility access, similar to the ULEZ.

But, Paris is not the only city to use an LTZ over the ULEZ, as Rome and Milan in Italy use the system along with Madrid in Spain.

Now, Londoners part of the Reddit group r/London are calling for the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to scrap the ULEZ and bring in the LTZ structure instead.

Sharing on the Reddit group, one person said "London Needs This Too" attaching an image of how Paris' LTZ works.

The map reminded some of how London roads changed during Covid, adding: "They made Soho car free in Covid, it was so nice and I never understood why they didn't keep it."

One added that they now use public transport more than driving following the ULEZ expansion in August 2023: "To be honest it’s now so hard to drive in London that I’m deferring to public transport.

"Between the roadworks that delay pretty much every journey and the horrific state of the A40 it’s the same journey time on a train."

But others pointed out that the LTZ is very similar to the Congestion Zones, adding: "London already has this and it’s way better enforced: the congestion zone. Paris had only limited some traffic to these areas and they have no ANPR to enforce it.

"There are loads of exemptions. I’m driving here today and it really doesn’t seem any different than last week."
