Three men were attacked with a gas canister before a Rolex watch was stolen from one of them in Greenwich.
The victims were jumped from behind and two of them were hit over the head in Millennium Way at around 10.30pm on October 27.
The third man managed to escape unharmed and call the police.
The attacker is described by police as a white man with a beard who was wearing a white Nike T-shirt.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: "At around 22:30hrs on Sunday, 27 October, three men, aged 20s, were walking on Millennium Way, Greenwich, when they were attacked from behind by a man armed with a heavy object - possibly a gas cannister.
"Two of the victims suffered head injuries while the third managed to escape unharmed and called police.
"A Rolex watch was stolen from one of the victims.
"The attacker is described as a white man with a beard. At the time of the attack he was wearing a white Nike T-shirt."
