An Amazon delivery driver was sacked after thieves stole his van, a court has heard.

On March 25 the driver was on a delivery route through south east London.

He left his keys in the ignition whilst delivering a package in Eltham when his van was driven away by a thief, prosecutor Jade Sodipo said.

A total of 311 parcels were inside the van at the time.

As a result of the incident, the driver lost his job.

Police tracked the van to an address on Cutter Lane, Greenwich, where they found two men in a lift with multiple Amazon parcels.

One of the men was Robert French, 56, of Cutter Lane.

When police searched his flat officers found more Amazon parcels containing smart watches, USB cables, books, skin care products and tea towels, Ms Sodipo said.

French pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and appeared at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday (October 30).

Though he was in possession of many stolen Amazon parcels, Ms Sodipo said French was not the person who stole the van.

His sentencing was adjourned to a later date.
