Two women from Dartford have been convicted for separate incidents of theft, with one perpetrator biting a shop worker’s arm before fleeing the scene.
On September 25, Lisa Kivlehan, of Tennyson Road, entered a shop on London Road and stole four bottles of alcohol by putting them inside her bag.
The 38-year-old was challenged by a member of staff who tried to stop her from leaving.
However, Kivlehan bit the victim’s arm and then left the premises.
On October 15, she was arrested and charged with theft and assault.
She pleaded guilty during her first hearing at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court the following day.
Kivlehan was immediately sentenced to 180 days in prison, including the activation of a suspended sentence.
In a separate incident, Naomi Denton-Younger, of Priory Road, went into Sainsbury’s on Prior Road, Dartford on October 14 and stole some food.
Two days later, she returned to the shop and ran out with a bottle of whiskey.
Nearby police on patrol chased after her and she was arrested.
The 33-year-old was charged with two thefts.
She pleaded guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 17.
Denton-Younger has been conditionally bailed to a hearing at the same court on December 9.
In a third incident, police were called to the Co-op in East Milton Road, Gravesend on Thursday, October 17 to reports of a man stealing a crate of alcohol.
A local officer spotted a suspected in Queens Road and detained them.
Lewis Flint, of no fixed address, was later charged with theft and was conditionally bailed.
The 31-year-old will appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on November 1.
Chief Inspector Lee Cheesman said: “Our officers are committed to tackling retail theft as it can have an impact on the profitability of businesses, and affects the prices law abiding members of the public have to pay.
“It also causes distress to shop workers and we will ensure anyone identified as a suspect is swiftly tracked down and detained.”
