The annual Poppy Appeal is set to launch this weekend in Bexleyheath with a day full of remembrance and community activities – including the showcasing of a WWII Spitfire replica.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 26, from 10am to 4pm at the Bexleyheath Clock Tower.

It is hoped the event will offer a meaningful way for residents to pay tribute to veterans and support a vital cause organised by the Royal British Legion.

The day will begin with a Service of Dedication at 11am at Christ Church, Broadway, led by Rev Trevor Wyatt at the Garden of Remembrance.

This service will honour the sacrifices of veterans and emphasise the significance of the Poppy Appeal in supporting those who have served in the military.

After the service, the focus will shift to the heart of Bexleyheath Town Centre, where an array of activities and attractions will be available for all ages.

One of the main highlights is the WWII Spitfire replica, a symbol of Britain’s resilience during the war.

The Austin Champ Army Jeep Display and The Queen's Own Royal West Kent WWI Living History Group will also provide a chance to explore military history up close.

Entertainment will include Carradine’s Cockney Singalong and live music, creating a lively atmosphere.

There will also be food stalls and family-friendly activities to ensure everyone has a great time while supporting the Royal British Legion.

This event is an opportunity for the community to come together, remember those who have sacrificed, and raise important funds for veterans and their families.

Caron Linyard, Town Centre Manager, said: “We are incredibly proud to support the Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal here in Bexleyheath.

“This event not only brings our community together in remembrance of those who have served but also allows us to show our gratitude by raising vital funds for the Legion’s invaluable work.

“The Poppy Appeal plays a crucial role in ensuring veterans and their families receive the support they need, and we are honoured to contribute to such an important cause.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone for a positive day of fundraising and community spirit.”

This event is in collaboration with BID Bexleyheath Business Partnership Ltd, a group of local businesses that have been working together since 2011 to enhance the community and bring engaging events to the area.
