Seven pitches for Travellers are planned next to a railway line in Catford.
Lewisham Council has proposed creating the new site at a disused piece of land in Pool Court.
If approved, it would be the only site for Travellers in the borough since the former site in Thurston Road shut in 2009.
Under the plans, an initial three pitches would be created on the land, which is known to be a fly-tipping hotspot.
Each pitch would contain a static caravan, a utility block and a car parking space, as well as room for a mobile caravan.
The site would be located between homes in Pool Court and the Thameslink railway line.
A new access road from Fordmill Road into the site would also be built as part of the development.
It is expected that four further pitches would then be created on neighbouring land that is owned by National Rail – but this would require another planning application.
Planning documents suggest that members of the Traveller community are supportive of the proposals, having waited for local family pitches for a long time.
Full details of the application can be found on Lewisham Council’s planning portal under reference DC/24/136404.
