A shocking video shows a popular south east London food market erupting in flames in a middle-of-the-night blaze.
Emergency services were called to Vinegar Yard, based in St Thomas Street near to London Bridge, on Sunday, October 13 at around 2.30am.
At the scene, a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson.
No injuries were reported and enquiries are ongoing.
A video sent to the News Shopper by someone who called emergency services when the fire broke out shows flames taller than nearby trees as the market burned down.
Plumes of smoke can be seen coming from the fire with ash flying through the air.
Another video shows fire burning at one of the indoor sections of the market.
The following day, a video shared on TikTok shows a huge crime scene in place after the blaze.
There were multiple police vehicles and fire engines at the scene and the venue appears to be significantly damaged.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 02:27hrs on Sunday, 13 October to reports of a fire at a venue in St Thomas Street, SE1
“Officers responded with the LFB.
“A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson.
“There were no reports of any injuries.
“Enquiries continue.”
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters assisted the Metropolitan Police Service with an incident on St Thomas Street in London Bridge.
“Control Officers received the first of seven calls at 0229 (13/10) and mobilised two fire engines from Dockhead and Dowgate Fire Stations to the scene.”
