A café in Beckenham has installed a live departures board - so customers aren't late for trains.

Poached, next to Beckenham Junction station, added the board with live train updates two weeks ago.

Rachel Earing, 23, says it has been a hit with customers so far.

She said: “We had been thinking about it for a little while.

“We are right by the station and a lot of the time customers would come in and panic over when their trains are, so it is reassuring for them.

“It was a real lightbulb idea. There has been a really good response.”

The board, which was bought from UK Departure Boards, comes in various different sizes.

The restaurant say they pay monthly instalments to keep getting live updates, and that it has been worth every penny.

Miss Earing, who has worked there for seven years, added: “People who are sat in can’t help but watch the trains go by.

“Customers can now look up and know when they have to leave, and we know when their coffee has to be ready by.

“The delay updates are really helpful too. If I see that a train is delayed then I know to prepare for a big rush.

“People will also know not to rush out and can stay in the warmth for as long as possible in the winter months.”

Poached, which offers breakfast, brunch and coffee, has received an overwhelmingly positive reaction on social media - which Miss Earing believes could make the boards a trend.

She added: “We have had a lot of positive feedback on social media.

“I think it could become a trend. It is really handy for any shops next to a station.”

One user posted the new addition on Facebook with the caption: “What a brilliant idea! Well done Poached.”

Commenters chimed in saying “Now that’s clever! Never miss a train again” And “What a fabulous idea.”
