TGI Friday’s at The O2 has been saved from closure as the chain enters administration.
The Sun reported today (October 7) that several jobs are in danger after the TGI Friday’s chain announced that 35 restaurants in different locations across the country would be closing after it went into administration on September 18, 2024.
One of the south London branches to face closure is the one in Croydon.
A list of the 51 restaurants that have been saved from closure, following a new deal agreed today with private equity firms Breal Capital and Calveton UK, was published by The Sun today, with the branch in the London O2 listed.
Julie McEwan, chief executive of TGI Fridays UK, said: "TGI Fridays is a much-loved brand with a rich heritage.
"The news today marks the start of a positive future for our business following a very challenging period for the casual dining sector as a whole.
"We look to the future with confidence that the TGI Friday’s brand will continue to attract loyal and new guests."
A spokesperson for the new owners said: "We are delighted to be working with such an enthusiastic and committed management team to both modernise the business and capitalise on the heritage of this iconic brand."
