A busy supermarket in Bexleyheath has been evacuated due to an incident in the boiler room of the store.

Shoppers were evacuated from Asda superstore in Broadway just before 5.20pm yesterday (October 4).

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters attended the incident in the lower ground boiler room.

One person, who wishes to be kept anonymous, told the News Shopper: "We were just told to get out the store.

"The car park was full of smoke."

The incident is believed to have been caused by an overrunning diesel generator in the car park.

No injuries were reported and the incident was over for fire crews just before 7.20pm.

We understand the store has since reopened.
